Designed to accommodate 700 students, the Giddings Intermediate School project included concrete walks and drives, a covered auto/bus loading and unloading area, science labs, gym and athletic areas, cafeteria and assembly areas, kitchen facilities, library, computer labs, classrooms and administrative areas. The building is constructed on a structural slab on grade designed around a pre-engineered metal building with a standing seam roof system. Exterior walls are heavy gauge metal framing with a brick veneer and interior walls are constructed of light gauge framing finished in painted and wallpapered drywall. Walls in the cafeteria and gym areas are concrete block with an epoxy paint finish while corridor walls feature plastic laminate wainscot and wallpaper. Classrooms are wallpapered throughout. The building also features suspended acoustical ceilings, vinyl and ceramic tile and carpeted flooring. The gym includes basketball equipment, retractable bleachers and a carpeted sports court. The cafeteria/auditorium features a sound and light system and stage curtains.
